Whoah there's an uncontroversial topic!!
I usually find it impossible to decide on questions like this but I'll give it a try.
After a great struggle I decided that my favourite song was U2's One.
It just takes me back to '91 when I first heard it and was discovering music that could be more than just a background to sing and dance along with.
Some may say it's a bit 'All you Need is Love' in it's hippy values, but it is in truth an ambiguous song.
The fact that three different videos were made for it shows how many different meanings it can sustain. (The sunflowers and bulls version is the most powerful)
Overall, a true modern classic, which, along with 'Everybody hurts' defined an era thought to be musically devoid of soul.
