recently in the US there was a case involving a bible outside of a courthouse. the courts ordered the bible removed. this seems like a waste of time to me.

Religion should have no place in a court of law.
How ridiculous is it that people still have to swear on the "Bible" to signify that they are tellling the truth.
Show me the proof that the "Bible" is true and then I will swear on it. It's like asking someone to swear on the complete works of Shakespeare - mind you, there's more factual evidence forthat than in a 2000 year old load of fairy tales.

I, being an atheistic Buddhist, believe that religion has no place in government. I don't care if the president is Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, or whatever. It doesn't matter. The prez could be a person who believes that Zeus rules all from atop Mount Olympus, just so long as his beliefs don't interfere with his political acts. If people in the government think two men getting married or a women having an abortion is immoral, that's fine. If they think that it's wrong because the Bible or the Qu'ran says so, that too is fine. But when they use a religious reference to support a law or Constitutional amendment, I will get pissed. I am starting to get worried that the line between church and state is becomming blurred, and that we are in jeopardy of becoming a Theocracy. This is something that I will not stand for!
I personally would swear on a stack of Bibles, and still lie. It means nothing to me. Yet have me swear on the Dhammapatta (a book containing Buddha's teachings), and the truth is all you will hear from me.
