Tuesday, November 7th, 2004 - a date which will live in infamy.
Victories were few and losses were great. Here is a list of the heaviest casualties suffered by the Democratic Party:
-The Presidency of the United States, by 3,510,358 popular and 34 electoral votes.
-The Senate, four seats lost, including Democratic Minority leader Tom Daschle. Republican majority now at 55-44 (and one Independant).
-The House of Representitives, three seats lost. Republican majority now at 231-200 (and one Independant).
-The Governerships of Missouri, Utah, North Dakota, Vermont, and Indiana (however, we took New Hampshire, Montana, and Washington state).
-Ballot measures banning gay marraige passed in all 11 states in which they were proposed (Arkansas: 75%-25%; Georgia: 76%-24%; Kentucky: 75%-25%; Michigan: 59%-41%; Mississippi: 86%-14%; Montana: 67%-33%; North Dakota: 73%-27%; Ohio: 62%-38; Oklahoma: 76%-24%; Oregan: 57%-43%; and Utah: 66%-34%).
-Ballot measure in Oregan allowing medicinal marijuana did not pass (however, Montana passed a measure approving medicinal marijuana).
-Ballot measure in Alaska legalizing marijuana did not pass. Would have made mariuana legal just like cigarettes are.
Major victories of the Democratic Party were:
-Passing of a ballot measure in California which offically recognizes and funds stem-cell research, a field of medical science which could potentially save hundreds of millions of lives. ;D
-Senate seats taken from Republicans in Illinois and Colorado. ;D
-House seats taken from Republicans in Colorado (District 3) and Georgia (District 12). ;D
-Presidencially, the state of New Hampshire. New Hampshire voted for Bush in 2000, but voted for Kerry in '04. ;D
As you can see, the Democrats are now an endangered species. Maybe the stem-cell research in Cali will help us somehow in '08. Until then, all Democrats are recommended to stay inside and lock your doors. It's not safe for us out there.
